TOP 5 | PHOENIX FESTIVAL

Screen shot 2014-11-12 at 3.02.38 PMWell, Davy Minor has done it again. The man behind Deer Bear Wolf (and the popular former music blog Ohmpark) has added another facet to his growing empire, which already includes other events as well as a small press, music label, online store and magazine, with the creation and curation of Phoenix Fest. He says he sleeps—we can’t confirm this.

Below, five reasons why you should hit up the inaugural Phoenix Fest, happening this Saturday from noon to 6pm at Urban Sprout Farms in Southwest Atlanta.

1. Variety Show

Music, installations, murals—it’s all here. Traipse around the outdoor space and you could stumble upon one of nine music and lit performances, seven live muralists, a ton of installations (including one by your pals at CommonCreativ, whoop!) and already complete murals, an artist market and more (believe it or not).

2. Get Familiar With the Farm

Ever hear of Urban Sprout? Neither have we—but we can’t wait to check out the biodynamic farming land, which marries agriculture with energy-saving techniques to create no negative impact on the natural environment, reduce green waste to landfills and produce high-quality food.

3.  Trucks and Tastes

Ah, the mobile movement. Look out for the #weloveatl truck, plus eats and drinks from the likes of Queen of Cream, Pull Coffee for a pick-me-up, Good Belly (those Poodles, y’all) and Smiley’s.

4.  Online to IRL

All those murals you see? Those Free Art Fridays you hunt for? Those artsy folks you follow on Instagram? Here’s your chance to mingle with a slew of the local creative scene’s heavy hitters who are blazing trails and helping make a name for Atlanta’s artists.

5. You Know This One…

You get all this coolness in one place—for free. Simply RSVP on Eventbrite here and you’re all set to enjoy a day of creative magic cropping up in the ruins of a derelict motel site in Lakewood. We bet that’s something you don’t do every Saturday. See you there!
