It rarely feels like summer with this never-ending rain—so we’re excited to get back into warm-weather mode by hitting up The Big Pop Up in Decatur this Thursday, June 20. Co-sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance and the East Decatur Station, the second annual Big Pop Up shows up in Decatur from 6-9 pm, one block from the Avondale MARTA station (so you definitely have no excuse, it’s MARTA accessible!). Ample parking is available as well. Here’s why you should check it out:
It’s sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance. The DAA continues to support artists and art projects around the city. They’re trying to make people venture to other sides of Decatur and think outside the downtown square so go ahead and take an adventure to the other side of the tracks.
Food trucks. It’s almost the end of the week and your fridge is looking sad—I bet you don’t feel like doing a grocery run. Head over to the food trucks and enjoy some delicious treats as well as food from local Decatur eateries. And of course, finish up your meal with a new frozen flavor from the king himself, the King of Pops.
It’s free. Yup, this event is free and all ages. Need we say more?
Vendors galore and a little bit of jazz. Support local artists and visit the different merchants for arts, crafts and jewelry while listening to live music, then head down to the New Street Studio for some live jazz.
Get to know two local breweries. Two of Decatur’s newest breweries, Three Taverns and Blue Tarp, have made their home near the Avondale Station. Sample their current brews and learn more about their upcoming offerings.
