Once a year, Flux Projects fills the streets and empty spaces of Castleberry Hill Arts District with the best in dance, performance, multimedia and music, as well as sound and light installations for a true visual experience. FLUX NIGHT returns this year and, from what we’ve seen and heard, it will not disappoint. Prepare yourself for an exciting glimpse at what some Atlanta creatives have been cooking up over the past year—and what’s to come.
Here’s why you shouldn’t miss it:
Get your hunt on. Atlanta’s favorite street artists Catlanta, Evereman, Kenn Twofour & Ted Murphy went into overdrive for FLUX. They made hundreds of pieces to be scattered all over Castleberry Hill during FLUX NIGHT, so if you’ve been trying to snag one of their signature pieces, now it’s your chance!
gloATL. You’ve seen them around town, in empty store spaces in Little Five Points or even outside MARTA stations, telling unique stories with their bodies (you may have also read our Q&A with their founder). Choreographer Lauri Stallings’ dancing posse are bringing it during their 23-minute long performance, “Act of Devotion.”
Seriously cool art installations. One of the biggest installations will be Jacob Abramson and Suzette Guy’s real-time digital art projections and graffiti, with the use of a mobile tablet, on the side of a building. Tip: If you have an iPhone, make sure to download the FLUX app to make your way around the event.
Make your belly happy. Atlanta became a better place with food trucks (I mean, yum!) and of course they wouldn’t miss out on the fun this Saturday. Enjoy a fall night with a tamale from the Tamale Queen or a treat from Doggy Dog and finish it with one of the King of Pops’ latest concoctions.
Support local. Flux Projects has been making a permanent mark in Atlanta throughout the year with different temporary installations—like the recent Freedom Park SEAT sculpture. Bringing creative things to the city ain’t easy, so support this non-profit organization and its artists by coming out on Saturday and doing something different.
FLUX NIGHT is this Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Castleberry Hill Arts District, from 8pm-midnight. For more info, visit fluxprojects.org/fluxnight/
