TOP 5 | DIY + ATL Pop-Up Art Fest

diiyatlThere’s something almost magical about watching an artist at work and seeing their creative process come to life. That’s the idea behind  DIY + ATL Pop-up Art Fest — a one-night celebration of local art, music and dance. Sponsored by the folks at web development platform Wix.com in collaboration with DeerBearWolf, the General Assembly gallery at Ponce City Market will be taken over on Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m. by giant dry-erase board for the seven participating artists to create murals on throughout the night, along with a panel discussion about their lives as working artists. The participating artists include Molly Rose Freeman, Yoyo Ferro, Brandon Sadler, Squishiepuss, Make Blackout Poetry, Monica Alexander and Black Cat Tips, with dance performances from Zoetic and music from DJ Feast of Violet. Ready to party? We are. Here’s why you should RSVP right now:

  1. Support the arts scene. So simple, yet so important. Our city’s creative pool is growing so fast! The gallery will be filled with local art, and the artists will be creating pieces live and on site. Come hang out and discover some new artists and their works.
  2. Get the nitty-gritty on what it’s like to be a working artist in ATL. An intimate panel discussion with the participating artists will begin around 7 p.m. to provide a rare glimpse into the working lives of these artists. They’ll talk about how they got started, being a creative entrepreneur and exploring the ups and downs of being in a creative industry.
  3. Art in process. Giant dry-erase board murals—need we say more? The GA gallery will be transformed into a quickly-evolving creative space for these artists to create large-scale yet temporary art.
  4. Be entertained, then hit the dance floor. Performances by Zoetic‘s all-female dance ensemble will bring amazing moves and an accompanied empowering message to the gallery. Zoetic celebrates the female spirit, its history and the ability to laugh at ourselves through their performances. Got inspired to shake it off? Don’t worry, DJ Feast of Violet will be spinning some badass tunes.
  5. Did we mention it’s free? Because it is! Just make sure to RSVP ASAP via the event page.
