RAW ATLANTA PRESENT 2.18.15

The mission of independent arts organization RAW is simple: to help give up-and-coming artists the tools, resources and exposure they need to achieve success. RAW holds 30 to 70 showcases a month throughout the U.S., Canada, London and Australia that feature artists handpicked by the organization’s directors, including tonight’s RAW Atlanta showcase at Terminal West at 7pm. Snag a ticket from the site (or directly from a participating artist), slip into some snazzy cocktail attire and look out for works by local such as Alexa Berrong, Kevin Currie, The Atlanta School of Burlesque, Threaded Culture and more. Below, five reasons not to miss this artsy event.

15691510819_a5c5b1bd6c_b1.  Something for everyone: Performance art not your thing? More into fashion than paintings on a wall? Lucky for you, this showcase runs the gamut from film, fashion and music to visual and performance art, hair/makeup and more.

2. Arrive in style: Getting there is easy—hitch a ride with Lyft, and if you use code “RAWATL,” you get a $20 credit for your first ride. Easy-peasy.

3. Get up close and personal: Meet, interact with and learn more about the hardworking artists making up our city’s creative scene. Plus, even though the concept of “networking” Is inherently a little gross, it’s a great place to connect with freelance painters, makeup artists, photographers and more that you, the company you work for or someone you know could collaborate with in the future.

4. Directly support artists: Each participating artist is tasked with paying the equivalent of 20 admission tickets to be part of these showcases—that’s $300. Sound steep? It is. However, the cost can easily be supplemented through each artist selling the tickets they’ve purchased. So, no brainer: take a ticket off an artist’s hands.

5. Shop around: RAW takes no commission from work sold at these events, so whether it’s for you or someone whose birthday you forgot, buy a piece of art while you’re at it!
